Putin ally’s WW3 hypersonic missile threat to ‘defenceless’ UK | UK | News

A senior Russian official recently claimed Britain and Europe were “vulnerable” to Moscow’s latest hypersonic weapons, raising fears of a potential worldwide conflict.
These comments were made on Telegram in January by Aleksey Aleksandrovich Zhuravlyov, a staunch nationalist MP and leader of the Rodina party, who shared a German news report about a recent Russian missile attack in Ukraine.
Zhuravlyov referred to an article published in the Berliner Zeitung discussing the alleged use of Russia’s “Oreshnik” hypersonic missile system during attacks targeting Ukraine’s Lviv region. He suggested that the attack had raised concerns among political and military leaders in Britain and Europe.
In his comments, the Kremlin ally described the attack as a “clear signal” to the EU and NATO and insisted it demonstrated Russia’s ability to strike targets in “Western capitals” and NATO military bases.
He also argued that Ukraine’s Western allies were “effectively vulnerable” to Moscow’s advanced weapons technology; this claim was not made by the German newspaper itself.
Berliner Zeitung’s article focused on the resumption of missile attacks on Ukraine and pointed out that Moscow deployed the Oreshnik system for the first time in months during heavy attacks on Kiev and the western parts of the country.
But Zhuravlyov’s controversial comment significantly surpassed the original reporting by using it to promote a narrative of Western weakness and military weakness.
His post did not name any city specifically and did not directly threaten any country.
Known for his confrontational comments about NATO and the West, Zhuravlyov is known for his bellicose rhetoric and frequently warns of a direct conflict between Russia and Western countries.
The comments come as tensions between Russia and NATO reach their highest point since the Cold War and as concerns grow about the potential for tensions to escalate as the conflict in Ukraine continues.
While Western officials have consistently rejected Russia’s claims about the invincibility of its hypersonic weapons, NATO maintains the ability to fully defend its member states.
