Indian Army vs Chinese Army: Who is more powerful? Active soldiers, tanks, aircrafts, submarines, artillery and firepower compared | Have a look | India News

Indian Army vs Chinese Army: India and China are two of Asia’s largest military powers, with large armies and massive defense forces. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is the larger force in terms of active troops. According to global military statistics, China’s armed forces have more than 2.1 million active personnel, while India has around 1.4 million soldiers. This gives China a clear numerical advantage in manpower.

But a deeper look at reserves and total military personnel could change the picture. While India is reported to maintain its significant reserve power, China’s reserve numbers appear lower in some assessments.

Total military personnel: Global rankings place both countries among the world’s strongest powers.

Tanks and armored forces

Armored forces, including tanks and armored vehicles, are crucial to land warfare. China has numerical superiority here too. China’s ground forces operate a larger fleet of main battle tanks, numbering an estimated 6,800 tanks compared to India’s approximately 4,600 tanks.

Armored fighting vehicles, which include infantry carriers and other armored support vehicles, have strong numbers in both countries, but China reportedly has higher numbers overall.

Artillery and firepower

Artillery is another area where China’s numerical advantage is seen. According to reports, China operates thousands more self-propelled and rocket artillery systems than India. However, India has a significant number of towed artillery and is modernizing its artillery capabilities.

Air and Navy

Although this article focuses mostly on the power of the military, broader military capability also influences strategic power.

Aeroplane: The Chinese air force has around 3,200 military aircraft, including around 1,900 fighter jets, while India has around 2,200 military aircraft, of which 600-650 are in active service.

Naval forces: The Chinese navy is the world’s largest navy in terms of number of ships, with over 370 warships, including approximately 60 submarines, aircraft carriers, destroyers and frigates. The Indian navy is also a major regional power, with around 290-300 ships, including around 18 submarines, aircraft carriers, destroyers and patrol ships.

Beyond numbers

Experts warn that raw numbers do not tell the full story of military effectiveness. India’s armed forces have extensive experience in high-altitude and mountainous warfare along its long and rugged border with China. Terrain advantage, logistics and troop readiness are significantly important in any military assessment.

Similarly, China’s greater power is shaped by its strategic objectives, broader regional presence, and investments in technology and mechanization.

strategic balance

Despite China’s numerical superiority in terms of troops, tanks and overall budget, both India and China have large and capable armed forces that reflect their great power roles in Asia. Analysts say any future conflict will likely involve limited skirmishes and deterrence strategies rather than a full-scale war, as both countries have significant defensive capabilities and nuclear weapons.

China’s military is larger than most conventional soldiers and heavy equipment counts. Although India’s military is numerically smaller, it has strong specialized capabilities.
