Unfaithful Olympic medallist makes desperate bid to win back ex
– Livigno: Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid used his bronze medal victory in the men’s 20km race to make a desperate public appeal to the ex-girlfriend he cheated on, saying he hoped committing “social suicide” at the Winter Olympics would help win her back.
Lægreid, considered one of the best biathletes in the world, broke down in tears after the competition at the Anterselva Biathlon Arena on Tuesday; not only because he missed out on the gold medal to his compatriot Johan-Olav Botn, but also because he finished the race behind second-place Frenchman Eric Perrot.

In a series of extraordinary and unexpected confessions to media outlets in Norweigan after the incident, the 28-year-old revealed that he had been unfaithful to his former partner, whom he described as “the gold medal in my life” but had not publicly disclosed.
Lægreid, who took his skis in hand and was overcome with emotions, said that he had informed him only a week ago, but this situation cast a shadow over the preparations for Milan Cortina 2026.
“There is someone I want to share this with who might not be watching today,” said Lægreid, a seven-time biathlon world champion who helped Norway win gold in the men’s relay at Beijing 2022.
“Six months ago I met the love of my life, the most beautiful and kindest person in the world. Three months ago I made my biggest mistake and cheated on her. I told her about it a week ago. It was the worst week of my life.
“I had a gold medal in my life and there are probably many people who look at me with different eyes, but I only have eyes for it. Sports have been in the background for the last few days. Yes, I wish I could share this with him.”
“I don’t want to say who he is. He’s had enough after last week, but I hope there’s light at the end of the tunnel for both of us. And he can continue to love me.”
