Plane makes miraculous emergency landing on busy street | US | News

The single-engine plane landed on the road in the US state of Georgia at around 12.10 on Monday, February 9. The Gainesville Police Department said the vehicle crashed into multiple vehicles at a busy intersection.
Gainesville Police Capt. Kevin Holbrook said the plane attempted to return to the airport after the pilot noticed a loss of engine power.
The plane’s pilot, Thomas Rogers, said everything went wrong shortly after takeoff.
Mr. Rogers told local media: “We lost our engine taking off from Gainesville and we realized we tried to float backwards, we did everything by the book, but we realized we couldn’t get back the farther we were, so we took off.”
Mr. Rogers had to aim for the traffic-filled asphalt.
The plane struck three vehicles during landing and crashed into the back of an SUV, dislodging a fuel tank.
“It is absolutely remarkable that this aircraft crashed, did not hit any utility poles or power lines, and only hit three vehicles,” said Capt. Holbrook.
Capt. Holbrook said hundreds of thousands of vehicles cross the roadway every day, and leading emergency crews are expecting the worst.
“This is often a situation where we will have multiple fatalities,” he added.
Deanna Campbell watched in astonishment as the incident unfolded.
“I just said to my husband: ‘It’s a plane! It’s a plane!’ That really scared us,” Ms Campbell said.
Police confirmed Mr Rogers and a student pilot suffered minor injuries. They were taken to the hospital for treatment.
