Manhunt underway after robber escapes police custody | UK | News

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 03.30am on Tuesday 10 February, the Met was informed by the Prison Service that a prisoner had escaped from custody while under the care of prison staff at a hospital in West London.” He told the mirror.

Boakye, of Enfield, was sentenced to six years and five months in prison in July 2023 for conspiracy to commit robbery and an additional charge of robbery.

Police said they could not provide further details as the investigation continues apace.

Police added that officers were carrying out urgent investigations in a bid to locate Boakye and take him into custody.

Between June 2021 and January 2022, Boakye and three other teenagers committed a series of robberies and attempted robberies in London, Essex Live reported.

Armed with knives, the group forced the victims to hand over their mobile phones and give passwords to unlock them.

They then transferred the victims’ cryptocurrency to “hot wallets” and stole more than £115,000 in total.

The gang also stored bank details to purchase top-up cards, pay taxi fares and complete other fraudulent transactions.

Detective Constable James Green, of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said 19 robberies took place as part of the plot, which robbed a total of 26 people at the time.

“I have never encountered criminals of this cowardly nature in my entire career as a police officer,” Officer Green added.

“The group selected innocent members of the public, armed with guns, to steal mobile phones and digital currencies. While they implied that the victims were members of an opposing gang, everyone knew that they were innocent members of the public.”
