Feb 11 (Reuters) – The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said on Wednesday it had suspended all U.S. flights to and from El Paso International Airport in Texas for “specific security reasons,” without providing further details.

The airport, located next to the U.S. military’s Biggs Army Airfield and over the border with Juarez, Mexico, said in a post on Instagram that all flights were canceled.

El Paso airport said the restrictions were imposed “at short notice” and was awaiting additional guidance from the FAA, The New York Times reported.

Flights are also banned from airspace over the nearby community of Santa Teresa in the US state of New Mexico, the FAA said.

The agency added that the restrictions will be in effect until February 21 and cover an area within a radius of approximately 10 nautical miles from the airport, excluding Mexican airspace.

The FAA did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for details for safety reasons.

According to its website, the airport served 3.49 million passengers in the first 11 months of 2025. Major US airlines such as Southwest, Delta, United and American fly there.
