Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday (February 11, 2026) apologized for hurting sentiments with his remarks in the Assembly and added that his “unparliamentary language” could be struck from the record.
Pandemonium broke out in the House on Tuesday afternoon (February 10) when Mr Abdullah mocked the BJP MPs in his post-Budget speech, implying that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had scolded them for their performance in the House during his visit to J&K. CM said:“inko itnaay joota paday hai” (they were literally beaten with shoes, a metaphor for severe condemnation).
BJP MPs created turmoil in the Parliament on Wednesday, February 11, demanding an apology from the CM and staged a brief strike. Facing opposition from the opposition, Mr Abdullah said: “We all say things in the heat of the moment. If any of my words hurt anyone’s feelings, I apologize. The Speaker can delete any unparliamentary language.”

However, he also reacted to BJP Opposition Leader Sunil Sharma’s statement about National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah. “My comments were directed at them [BJP legislators] and not in family members. However, the opposition’s ‘field commander’ dragged my late grandfather into the situation,” he said.
Later, BJP leader and legislator Sham Lal Sharma accepted the CM’s apology. “Mr. Abdullah showed tact and maturity by admitting his mistake with his words in the Parliament,” he said.
