The French-Italian eyewear brand said it sold over 7 million artificial intelligence glasses last year.

That’s more than the combined 2 million units the company sold in 2023 and 2024, according to its quarterly report last february.

The figure announced Wednesday includes smart glasses sold under the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands, the latter of which was introduced in June.

The company’s smart glasses success is the latest sign that consumer adoption of wearable AI devices is accelerating.

“Our success in wearable technologies is helping advance the AI ​​eyewear revolution, thanks to our iconic brands being a powerful driver of demand,” the company said in a statement. he said.

According to CNBC, EssilorLuxottica has been working on wearable devices with the social media company since 2019. The two companies launched the first version of the glasses in September 2021, but the device did not gain widespread attention until its second-generation launch in 2023.

In September, EssilorLuxottica and Meta introduced a new iteration of Ray-Ban that can be controlled via hand gestures and neural technology. This device retails for $799 and has a small display on one of the lenses.

In January, Meta said it would push back the international launch of its Ray-Ban Display glasses, originally scheduled for early 2026, due to “unprecedented” demand in the US.

Last month, Bloomberg reported It was stated that Meta and EssilorLuxottica are discussing doubling production to at least 20 million units by the end of this year to meet increasing demand.

Meta stated its commitment to working with the eyewear manufacturer and extended the contract. long term partnership agreement “collaborating over the next decade” in 2024.
