Prabhavathy Amma Pledges to Guard Footpath Rights

Thiuvananthapuram: 73-year-old Prabhavathy Amma is known for raising her voice against all kinds of wrongs.
“People use this footpath to reach the nearby hospital, students walk to their schools, and employees walk to nearby offices,” he explained. However, two-wheeler drivers often misuse the footpath, creating serious dangers for pedestrians. While most people rarely react to such intrusions, he says, when he raises his voice, he just gives a thumbs up.
“I tell them this is not enough, you have to stand with me,” he insists. The artist, who was a former member of the Scouts and Guides during his student years, carried the discipline he learned at that time throughout his life.
I believe this message needs to be conveyed strongly in classrooms. People often wait for the law to take action, but I choose my own path, keeping a close eye on violations of the roads, especially pedestrian footpaths. Kerala Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar called him to appreciate his intervention and urged him to prioritize repairing footpaths and broken roads. Pedestrian paths deserve special attention as they are frequently used by the elderly, women and children.
When the Minister said that heavy fines would be imposed on violators, he said; “Such actions will only bring more money to the state treasury.” However, he wants more awareness classes to be given to citizens to check violations.
Prabhavathy Amma admires legendary communist leader late KR Gowri Amma. “I had the chance to work with him. He was a fiery man who inspired millions, including me,” he said. Amma is also active on Instagram under the name prabhakarthu_c.
