Man admits rape of former Conservative councillor’s ex-wife

A man has admitted raping and sexually assaulting the ex-wife of a former councillor.
Dean Hamilton, 47, pleaded guilty at Winchester Crown Court on Friday to one charge of assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault and one charge of rape in relation to June 30, 2015.
Wiltshire Police said Hamilton’s crimes were related to wider criminal proceedings involving Joanne Young, who waived her right to anonymity.
Judge Christopher Parker KC granted Hamilton conditional bail ahead of sentencing at a later date.
He told the defendant, who has no fixed abode, to expect “a very long prison sentence in due course.”
Her ex-husband, Philip Young (49), had previously admitted several charges including rape, sexual assault, assault by penetration and voyeurism.
Young, formerly of Swindon but now living on Amberley Road in Enfield, admitted giving his then wife multiple substances in an attempt to stun her; all crimes occurred between 2010 and 2023.
He pleaded guilty to 48 of the 56 charges against him; 14 pleaded guilty to voyeurism, 11 to rape, 11 to administering a substance with intent, seven to assault by penetration, four to sexual assault and one to publishing an obscene article.
Young also posted more than 500 intimate photos and videos of his ex-wife between 2010 and 2024, recording her performing private acts for his own sexual gratification without her consent.
Young, who served as a Conservative Swindon borough councilor for Covingham and Nythe between 2007 and 2010, pleaded not guilty to a further eight charges.
He denied three charges of taking indecent images of children, which allegedly occurred in July 2024.
Young also admitted one charge of possessing a prohibited image between January 2019 and January 2024 and four charges of possessing an extreme pornographic image.
Four other men also appeared in court accused of sexual offenses against Ms Young.
Norman Macksoni, 47, of Wood End Close in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire; and Richard Wilkins, 61, of Toothill, Swindon, Wiltshire, pleaded not guilty to one charge of rape and one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image.
Wilkins also denied the charge of assault by influence.
Connor Sanderson Doyle, 31, of Crofton Road, Swindon, pleaded not guilty to sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching.
Mohammed Hassan, 37, of Torun Way, Swindon, pleaded not guilty to sexual touching.
Police are also appealing for help in identifying another man wanted in connection with the incident; This man is said to be of large build, with a scar on the back of his head and a prominent tattoo on the left side of his chest.
Young, Macksoni, Wilkins, Doyle and Hassan are expected to go to trial in October.
