Greenwood College: Northern suburbs high school opens new sports hall as part of $18.4 million investment

Students returning to Greenwood College for the 2026 academic year were welcomed into a new gymnasium that officially opened this week.

The new gym includes indoor courts, locker rooms, facilities, storage and staff workspace.

Within the scope of the works, the university’s existing sports hall was transformed into modern drama and dance facilities.

The existing drama room was converted into staff quarters, while the existing dance room was converted into purpose-built science, technology, engineering and mathematics facilities.

These upgrades form part of the state government’s wider $18.4 million investment in the school.

The school opened in 1975 as Greenwood High School and is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

In the second semester of last year, 944 students from grades 7 to 12 were enrolled at the public co-educational school.

Education Minister Sabine Winton was at the school on Tuesday and said she was pleased the improvements had been completed just in time for the new school year.

“These modern spaces provide contemporary learning environments for students and staff in sports, performing arts and STEM programs,” he said.

Kingsley MLA Jessica Stojkovski was also there for the official opening.

“I know these new facilities are a huge win for local families, students and teachers at Greenwood College,” he said.

The remaining works are planned to be completed by October 2026.
