Climber dies and two in hospital after incident on Welsh coast

A climber has tragically died following an incident involving three people on the rugged coast of Wales.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed one man was pronounced dead at the scene of St Govan’s Head in Pembrokeshire on Thursday afternoon. The other two climbers involved in the incident were also hospitalized with injuries.

Authorities stated that the death was not considered suspicious and the person’s relatives were informed.

A police spokesman added: “Dyfed-Powys Police contacted the ambulance service at around 4.25pm ​​on Thursday 12 February to report concerns for the welfare of three people at St Govan’s Head in Pembrokeshire.”

“Officers were deployed to the area alongside many other agencies.

“Two of the injured, whose injuries were not considered life-threatening, were taken to hospital and treated. Unfortunately, it was announced that one person died at the scene.”

A spokesman for HM Coastguard said the alarm was first sounded at around 4pm on Thursday.

Crews from Fishguard, St Govan’s and Tenby were sent along with an HM Coastguard helicopter, an Irish Coastguard helicopter, Wales Air Ambulance and an RNLI lifeboat from the Angle.

Last year, a social media influencer with more than 10,000 followers fell 65ft to her death when she lost control while climbing a rocky mountainside in Snowdonia, North Wales.

Adventure-loving engineer Maria Eftimova, 28, was struggling on the infamous Tryfan mountain when the crash happened, an inquest heard.

While trying to hold on while climbing with her friends, Maria somersaulted and went into “free fall” from the mountain.
