Woman from Uttar Pradesh murdered over dowry in Jharkhand

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly killed over dowry and her body was set on fire in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, police said on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
They said the incident took place in Dalla village in Pandu police station area.
They said the deceased came from Sonbhadra in UP and got married 11 months ago.
The police said that they launched an investigation upon the complaint of the deceased woman’s father.
In his complaint, the father claimed that his daughter had been frequently beaten and harassed because of dowry since the wedding.

In his complaint, he claimed that “he was killed on February 13 and his body was set on fire to hide the evidence.”
SDPO (Vishrampur) Alok Kumar Tutti said the bones and other remains of the victim were recovered from a forest near the village on Saturday.
“The search for the accused is ongoing. No one has been arrested so far. All members of the mother-in-law’s family have escaped,” he said.
Vagesh Kumar Ray, officer-in-charge of Pandu police station, said that the forensic team has collected the remains of the victim.
