Tamil actor Trisha on Monday, February 16, 2026, condemned the ‘unpleasant and inappropriate remarks’ doing the rounds on social media and maintained that she is not aligned with any political party. Although Trisha refrained from naming anyone, her statement came a few days after Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran made a rude remark about her and actor and TVK chief Vijay while talking to reporters in Chennai on February 13.

An affidavit prepared by Trisha’s legal counsel states: “My client [Trisha] I never expected that a person with a high position in the political sphere of the state would make such an unpleasant and inappropriate statement. My client clearly states that he is not affiliated with any political party and does not intend to be. “In addition, my client has always maintained a neutral stance on politics, as he has constantly expressed in the past.”

“My client wishes to be defined solely by her art and not by any alleged political leanings. Moreover, and most importantly, it is a common saying that personal lives should never be made the subject of public comment or discourse and that people in high positions are expected to maintain responsibility and composure in public discourse,” the statement read, adding that Trisha’s name should not be involved in matters that do not concern her.

What is the controversy?

Three days ago, Nagenthran created a stir with a personal remark while responding to Vijay’s statement at the party meeting in Salem that DMK would be TVK’s only rival in the upcoming Assembly elections. Nagenthran said, “Vijay should move out of Trisha’s house to gain experience” and it snowballed into a huge controversy.

Many political leaders including DMK MPs Kanimozhi NVN Somu, Thamizhachi Thangapandian and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai criticized Nagenthran’s comment as inappropriate and rude.
