Six Gujarat courts get bomb threat mails; nothing suspicious found so far

Ahmedabad: Six courts in Gujarat received bomb threats via email on Tuesday, prompting authorities to conduct extensive searches, officials said.

They said that no suspicious situation has been found so far.

According to officials, courts in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Valsad, Rajkot, Gandhinagar and Mehsana received the threatening emails.

An email sent to the Vadodara district court claimed that 19 bombs were planted in the building, a police official said.

“The mail threatened to bomb the court premises by lunch time. The sender criticized the Tamil Nadu court’s order in the mail. A team comprising Vadodara SOG, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Dog Squad, local police and cyber experts reached the spot around 11 am. The court premises was cordoned off and nothing suspicious was found,” said DCP, Zone 2, Manjita Vanzara.


Valsad Superintendent of Police Yuvrajsinh Jadeja said that 19 courtrooms of the district court in Valsad were evacuated following an email claiming that 19 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) had been planted in the premises, which were to explode before afternoon prayers.
He added that nothing suspicious was found during the search. Rajkot, Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad district courts were also evacuated on Tuesday morning, but nothing suspicious was found, officials confirmed.

In the afternoon, Mehsana district court also received a bomb threat email, following which the court was evacuated.

An extensive search was launched with the help of BDDS, canine team and local police. Mehsana SP Himanshu Solanki said nothing suspicious has been found yet.

On Monday, bomb threat emails were received in 34 schools in Ahmedabad and Vadodara in Gujarat, following which the campuses were evacuated.

The mails turned out to be fake as nothing suspicious was found in any of the 34 schools, including 17 schools in Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
