Horror as car explodes into flames at Lidl supermarket as shoppers terrified | UK | News

Footage captured the dramatic moment a car burst into flames at the Lidl supermarket in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. Shocked shoppers watched as firefighters arrived at the scene and tackled the blaze, which sent thick black smoke into the sky.

Firefighters were called to the store just after 5 p.m. and found the vehicle already burned in the parking lot. While the teams were working to control the fire, the surrounding vehicles were damaged due to the intense heat. Thick clouds of black smoke were seen rising over the supermarket as shoppers gathered in the distance. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus surrounded the vehicle, while police helped keep citizens back.

Eyewitnesses said that the flames quickly spread to the vehicle, sparks and debris fell on the asphalt. It was seen that the car was left with its trunk open, away from other vehicles parked in the parking lot.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed crews brought the fire under control around half an hour after arriving.

Crews used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the car “appeared to have been altered by its owner” and was “well burned out” when crews arrived at the scene.

They said: “The fire was extinguished at around 5.30pm and crews spoke to Lidl staff before leaving the scene; the car remained cordoned off. Neighboring cars in the car park had heat damage.”

The burning vehicle was left inside the cordon while firefighters spoke to supermarket staff.

It was learned that there were no injuries following the incident.

While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, the investigation continues.

Photos taken by a local resident who wished to remain anonymous show the aftermath of the incident; The car was completely burned, only its chassis and tires remained.
