Australia knocked out of T20 World Cup after Zimbabwe-Ireland washout
Australia were eliminated from the Twenty20 World Cup without even completing their group stage matches after Zimbabwe’s match against Ireland in Sri Lanka ended in failure.
With both sides taking a point each from the rain-soaked draw, Australia cannot catch Zimbabwe on five points with two points even if they win their last game against Oman on Friday (12.30pm AEDT on Saturday).

Regular rain in Kandy meant there were covers at the Pallekele International Stadium for much of the day before the match was finally called off two and a half hours after its scheduled start.
Zimbabwe have now progressed to the Super Eight stage with Sri Lanka, with Thursday’s match between the teams to decide who comes top of the group.
