Marco Rubio Likely to Visit Israel on Feb 28

Washington, DC: According to CNN, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to visit Israel on February 28 to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to the report, Rubio will brief Netanyahu on the ongoing Geneva talks regarding a potential nuclear deal with Iran. The visit took place at a time when US and Iranian delegations continued negotiations in Geneva on the high-profile agreement.
Earlier on Wednesday (local time), White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said some progress had been made in the discussions, but both sides remained “far apart” on some issues.
“There has been some progress, but we are still a long way off on some issues. We expect the Iranians to come back with details in the next few weeks. The president will continue to monitor how this plays out,” he said.
Leavitt added that diplomacy remains the first option for US President Donald Trump before considering any military action against Iran, and warned Tehran that reaching a deal would be the smarter way.
When asked about a possible military operation, he emphasized that there were arguments for an attack, but the administration preferred negotiations. He also noted that US forces continue to hold talks with Israel without approving any military action.
Rubio’s planned visit also coincides with Trump’s Peace Board meeting on Thursday (local time), which is expected to focus on maintaining security in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
