Nearly 100 people fall ill after consuming prasad in Bihar’s Khagaria

Around 100 villagers, including children, fell ill after allegedly consuming ‘prasad’ on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. biharOfficials said in a statement on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, that he was in the Khagaria region.

It is stated that they are all out of danger now.

The incident took place late on Tuesday night (February 17, 2026) in Nayagaon Panchkhutti hamlet under Parbatta police station limits, sparking panic among residents.

On receiving information, Panchayat president Ram Vinay Kumar alerted the medical officer in charge of the nearby Community Health Center (CHC), following which a medical team rushed to the village and set up a medical camp on the Kali temple premises.

Medical Officer-in-Charge Kashish said the illness appeared to be a case of food poisoning linked to consumption of prasad. “The team intervened immediately and all patients received the necessary treatment. Their condition is stable and they are out of danger,” he said.

Officials said several children, whose condition was reported to be serious, were referred to a hospital in Parbatta for better treatment.

Doctors appealed to the villagers to maintain hygiene during religious and social gatherings and ensure safe distribution of food to avoid such incidents in the future.
