Speaking at the summit, Parmelin highlighted the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on daily life, including education, health, work and communication, and emphasized that although artificial intelligence has the potential to stimulate innovation, reduce inequality and create prosperity, these results are not automatic and require careful management.
“Switzerland and India share important values. Both countries recognize the delicate balance between innovation and responsibility. With AI, we have the opportunity to address these challenges more equitably than with past technological revolutions, but only if we create the right framework conditions now,” he said.
President Parmelin also emphasized that hosting the 2027 Summit will strengthen Switzerland’s position in digital policy, reaffirm its commitment to the rules-based international order and consolidate its role as a hub for artificial intelligence innovation and research.
“The summit will provide Geneva International with an important platform to highlight the importance of international law and fundamental rights in the development and use of artificial intelligence,” he said.
“Switzerland is honored to continue this journey together with India and all our other partners to ensure that AI serves as a force for human flourishing, economic opportunity and social progress for all,” he added.
During his two-day visit to India, President Parmelin also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day; Here, the leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including trade and investment, science and technology, innovation, skills development, cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties.
According to the official statement, the two leaders discussed the increasing momentum in economic relations following the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) and explored more opportunities for innovation-led growth, joint research and capacity building.
Prime Minister Modi also welcomed Switzerland’s initiative to host the next Artificial Intelligence Summit and underlined cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, which will host the 2028 Artificial Intelligence Summit.
Both leaders reaffirmed the common vision to elevate the India-Swiss partnership to new heights.
