Accused High Country killer Greg Lynn launched bid for bail in Victoria’s Supreme Court

Accused High Country killer Greg Lynn has applied for bail after his murder conviction was overturned on appeal.

The 59-year-old former Jetstar pilot was jailed for 32 years in November 2024 after a jury found him guilty of murdering 73-year-old Carol Clay in Victoria’s remote Wonnangatta Valley almost six years ago.

But following an appeal in the Victorian Court of Appeal late last year, a three-judge panel annulled his conviction and sentence and ordered a new trial.

The judges found that a serious miscarriage of justice had occurred in Mr Lynn’s case because the trial prosecutor had breached fair trial rules.

“There is no reason to think that the fundamental injustice that permeated the first trial will be reflected in the new trial,” they wrote, ordering a new trial on the charge.

Ms Clay and her partner Russell Hill, 74, disappeared while camping at Bucks Camp in Victoria’s High Country in March 2020.

Mr Lynn was charged with murdering the couple; Again. At his first trial, the jury found him not guilty of criminal liability for Mr. Hill’s death.

At the hearing Mr Lynn made a statement about two tragic accidental deaths and made a panicked effort to avoid being falsely accused.

On Friday Mr Lynn’s lawyers confirmed a bail application had been made to the Supreme Court of Victoria.

It is understood no date has been set for Mr Lynn’s bail application or the proposed retrial application.

He will appear in court later this month.
