Death of ex-NFL QB’s sister-in-law prompts GoFundMe campaign

Former NFL quarterback Brian Hoyer and his family are mourning the death of their loved one who died “suddenly and unexpectedly.”
Hoyer announced in a social media post that his sister-in-law Carissa died last Friday. He was 36 years old. Details surrounding Carissa’s death were not immediately made public.
“I write this with a heavy heart,” Hoyer captioned the Instagram post. Carissa is survived by Brian’s brother Brett Hoyer and their four young daughters.
“All of a sudden he became a widowed father of four girls under the age of 12,” the former New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders quarterback added.

The family started a GoFundMe campaign for financial support, and Hoyer shared information about the fundraiser at: his social media platform. The campaign is seeking $100,000. As of Thursday evening, the fund had exceeded its donation goal.

The GoFundMe statement described Carissa as “a strong and courageous woman who loved her family dearly” and “seized the opportunity to start a family of her own.”
“She truly felt called to be a wife and mother, and she embraced that role wholeheartedly,” he said at the memorial service. “She was the heart and soul of their home, a constant source of encouragement, faith, warmth and unconditional love through every hardship and every joy.”

The financial support is intended to “help alleviate daily pressures as Brett steps into the role of single parent.”
The statement continued: “Our hope is simple. We want Brett to be able to focus on loving his daughters, grieving together, and beginning the long process of recovery without the constant weight of financial stress.” “We cannot ease their pain, but together we can help carry this burden.”

Brian’s other brother, Matthew, expressed his gratitude for all the support the family has received.
“There are truly no words to fully express what this means to our family,” he wrote.

Hoyer last played in an NFL game with the Raiders in 2023. He made his debut with the Patriots in 2009 and returns to the franchise in 2024 as a member of the broadcast team.
