Attempted intimidation at Bordeaux prison

A correctional officer at Bordeaux prison was followed by a drone at the end of his shift on Thursday, an attempt at intimidation strongly denounced by his union.

According to our source, the agent in question filed a complaint with the police. He was leaving his shift when he noticed a drone following him. It is unknown whether this agent would have been targeted or if the criminals were targeting a random agent.
The police are studying the hypothesis that the actions committed towards the agent are linked to an event that occurred two weeks ago in Bordeaux prison. Prison authorities then seized illegal merchandise transported by a correctional officer. The drone tracking of the agent could represent retaliation in connection with this seizure, authorities believe.
“There is more and more intimidation of correctional officers. It’s a growing phenomenon,” declared the president of the Union of Peace Officers in Correctional Services of Quebec, Mathieu Lavoie. He did not want to confirm our information or comment on the details of the event given that an investigation is underway.
He is also concerned about cuts to prison staff while this type of incident is becoming more and more frequent. The trafficking of narcotics – which are delivered by drones – inside prison walls is a major issue, according to him. “If we want to tackle this, we must have the means to achieve our ambitions,” summarizes Mr. Lavoie.
