The Media Research Center on Thursday resurfaced an episode of CBS’ “48 Hours” in which host Dan Pretty analyzed the numerous dangers of mass immigration.
The Media Research Center, a conservative watchdog group that maintains a vast archive of news going back decades, is working on a report about a resurgent CBS TV show. CBS has been in the news in recent weeks with a report in which it was accused of underestimating the amount of violent criminals among the millions of illegal immigrants currently residing in America.
This comes at a time when America is in the midst of a national debate over immigration, both legal and illegal, and its impact on America as a country.
NewsBusters senior research analyst Bill D’Agostino, who works in a division of the Media Research Center, published a comprehensive thread summarizing his findings on the archived footage.

“1995: CBS’ Dan Pretty warns that Americans are ‘replacing foreigners.'” D’Agostino wrote on Thursday: “I found the entire one-hour episode of CBS’ 48 Hours titled ‘Slamming the Door,’ which deals with the harms of both legal and illegal immigration.”
In a clip previewing the special, Pretty described clips of people voicing concerns about mass legal and illegal immigration, summarizing: “Tonight on ’48 Hours,’ outrage over immigration, Americans kicked out and replaced by aliens, schools and hospitals pushed to the limit, criminal aliens on our streets. Should America slam the door?”
One of the key clips D’Agostino shared in the title of the special was outlining key concerns about mass immigration, both legal and illegal.

“When was the last time you heard Dan Pretty talk like that?” D’Agostino asked. The former CBS anchor was an outspoken progressive and was frequently accused of displaying liberal bias during his tenure at CBS.
The clip also followed a 2010 clip of then-President Barack Obama advocating deportations. The same year as the 1995 CBS broadcast, then-President Bill Clinton condemned the “large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country” in his State of the Union address.
After calling America a “melting pot” in her 1995 broadcast, Pretty warned that “the melting pot may be boiling.”
“In the next 48 hours, an estimated 6,000 immigrants, both legal and illegal, will arrive in this country, straining our ability to deal with new arrivals,” Pretty said. “And now, this nation of immigrants faces a painful question: Should immigration be slowed or even stopped?”
“This is a question asked by Americans who approach the newcomers with trepidation and, in some quarters, even anger,” the anchor continued.

D’Agostino responded to the clip: “It’s hard to believe, but before Democrats decided to import voters, broadcast journalists sometimes covered immigration from Americans’ perspectives.”
