A North Carolina man with a lengthy criminal record is behind bars again after allegedly assaulting a police officer at a local hospital.

Justin Wilkes, 37, was taken into custody Wednesday after allegedly hitting a campus police officer in the head at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. accordingly WBTV.

According to media reporting, Wilkes was allegedly ordered to leave the property, which led to an argument that ended with Wilkes beginning to yell at the officer.

While being arrested, Wilkes allegedly hit the police officer in the head and made “statements” with the intention of “provoking immediate violent retaliation.”

Wilkes was later arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting a public officer, according to jail records obtained by Fox News Digital.

Wiles was out of jail on pretrial release at the time of his arrest Wednesday, according to court records obtained by WBTV.

He had previously been arrested for trespassing at the same hospital on February 11 (just a week ago).

Court records obtained by WBTV also show Wilkes has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2005, with charges that include drug crimes, assault and robbery. He was reportedly sent to prison multiple times and was last released in July 2023.
