Over 680 properties going up for auction in San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — People can now register to bid on more than 680 properties available in this year’s online property tax auction.

San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector (TTC) Larry Cohen announced the start of bidder registration earlier this week. Must register online Until March 3 to enter the auction.

Each year, the county hosts a property tax auction to sell properties that have been in tax default for at least five years, Cohen said in a press release.

A total of 686 units were offered for sale at the auction to be held between March 13-18 this year. Properties include 70 improved, 66 unimproved, and 550 timeshares.

All sales are final. Cohen’s office encourages people to investigate process on its website before joining.

Owners of properties up for auction will still be able to avoid going on sale if they buy back their parcels and pay all taxes and fees owed by 17:00 on March 12.

According to the TTC, every effort is made to contact property owners to inform them of the upcoming sale of their property.

Bidder registration requires a refundable $1,000 deposit and a non-refundable $35 processing fee; However, some packages may require a larger deposit.
