DCE arrives but Sam Walker shines in Roosters-Eels hitout
The Roosters’ new-look backbone was missing a crucial member: Cowboys and NSW hooker Reece Robson. But even without the injuries to the No.9 and after just a few touches, the new halves combination was enough to put the rest of the competition on notice.
“The top 20 had to be a touch and go. [minutes]But I feel like we’ve got our flow going now and we’re very comfortable with each other,” Walker told Fox League as he walked off the field for halftime. “It’s been great.”

The same can be said for Walker himself. Having been deprived of football last year – knee and thumb injuries restricted the former Australian Schoolboy to just nine games – this was perhaps the best pre-season performance. That’s why the Roosters didn’t want it to end.
Walker remained on the field long after most of the top players had been stripped and swaddled for more meaningful future matches. Parramatta also put forward Jack Williams despite his fierce tackle on Tommy Talau, which will be reviewed by the match review committee.

But for all Walker’s heroics, it wasn’t enough to get the job done.
The Eels have gained a glimpse of their halves’ future, both in the short and long term. Pezet put in a solid performance for the second barrier try in the blue-gold, while potential successor Lorenzo Talataina assisted a try that helped settle the game 28-22.
Parramatta’s second trial win and the many bonus points they have accumulated along the way could see them crowned pre-season champions.
