Major Eviction Drive In Assam’s Goalpara, Evicts 1,080 Families From Forest Land

Guwahati: On Saturday, the Assam government launched a major evacuation ride to evacuate 1080 families allegedly attacked the forest land of the West Assem in the Paikan Reserve Forest in the Goalpara region.

In the midst of the protest of the released, the state administration Drive was primarily to prevent human-human conflict and to recover the ecological balance in the region.

The evacuation driving, which was planned to be carried out on Friday, was postponed for one day considering the Friday prayers in the Muslim majority region.

Goalpara Department Forestry Officer (DFO) Tejas Mariswamy said that the evacuation driving aims to clean the rape of approximately 135 hectares in the Paikan Reserve Forest of Krishnai.

Authorized, “There are 1,080 families attacking the forest land and we wanted them to evacuate the region in November-December last year. We offered notifications to evacuate the region until 10 July last month.” He said. Since 2023, the administration has cleared the rape of 650 hectares in four forest intervals.

However, the Congress criticized the driving forces of the evacuation and claimed that all Indian citizens released from the land during the BJP administration would be compensated if the opposition party came to power in the state.

AIUDF legislators and several minority students organizations made protest marches in and around the Goalpara region against the government’s evacuation driving. Minority organizations claimed that BJP deliberately targets Muslim citizens.
