Governor’s intervention sought to check digital overexposure among children

The National Council of CBSE Schools has sought the intervention of Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to convey the reported rise in excessive screen time and digital addiction among children and adolescents to the concerned authorities.
In a letter to Mr Arlekar, the council suggested formulating a structured, age-focused regulatory framework for students under 16 to control overexposure to digital. He suggested developing State-level guidelines limiting unsupervised access to social media platforms.
The council’s general secretary, Indira Rajan, suggested integrating digital literacy and digital citizenship education into the school curriculum and establishing coordinated monitoring mechanisms involving parents and schools. The council recommended collaborating with technology stakeholders to implement stronger child safety tools and age verification systems.
The letter stated that the increasing impact of unregulated digital exposure has emerged as a serious educational, psychological and social problem, especially among students under the age of 16.
