Boxing greats Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather agree rematch

Boxing greats Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have agreed to a professional rematch in September.

Pacquiao, 47, and Mayweather, 48, will fight live on Netflix at the Sphere in Las Vegas on Saturday, September 19.

Former world champion Mayweather announced last week that he would be coming out of retirement for the fourth time.

This will be the American’s first professional fight since defeating Conor McGregor by 10th-round technical knockout in 2017.

Eight-weight world champion Pacquiao retired from the sport in 2021 to focus on his political career, but returned to the ring last July to fight WBC heavyweight champion Mario Barrios.

Mayweather and Pacquiao first met in 2015 in what was billed as the ‘Fight of the Century’.

It was Mayweather who defeated Pacquiao by wide unanimous decision in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao said: “Floyd and I gave the world the greatest fight in boxing history.

“The fans have waited long enough. They deserve this rematch.

“I want Floyd to live with the only defeat in his professional record and always remember who gave it to him.”

Mayweather said: “I’ve already fought Manny once and beat him. It’ll be the same result this time.”
