MP vows coordinated action plan for development of Vijayawada

Vijayawada MP Keseni Sivanath said efforts are on to get additional grants for the city from the State government, along with immediate measures to resolve urban issues before the Greater Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is formed.
Addressing the media at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) office on Tuesday, Mr. Sivanath said that the corporation, public representatives and other departments concerned will sit down and discuss an action plan for the development of the city.
“We will hold a meeting soon and make coordinated efforts to achieve Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s target of beautifying the city,” Mr. Sivanath said.
Earlier, the MP held a review meeting with HM VMC Commissioner Dhyanachandra and Engineering Department officials in view of the upcoming monsoon season. MP reviewed the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by VMC for the construction of storm water drains. Under the DPR, the width of the Pantakaluva drain will be increased from the existing 2.5 m to 8 m to ensure smooth flow of rainwater.
The MP also directed the municipal authorities to submit a DPR on underground drainage, drinking water systems, development of parks and asked them to work towards easing traffic congestion by planning bridges in coordination with officials of the Railways and Roads and Buildings Department.
The MP suggested building mini sewage treatment plants (STPs) to treat used water in the city and also increasing the number of food courts. He suggested that one of these be established in Krishna Lanka.
In response, Mr. Dhyana Chandra said the company will submit a report on park development and DPRs on drinking water pipelines and underground drainage by March. He said the company will also explore the possibility of setting up a food court in Krishna Lanka.
Chief Engineer (in-charge) P. Satyakumari, Superintendent Engineer (Works) V. Chandrasekhar, Executive Engineers J. Srinivas, A. Srinivasa Reddy, G. Samrajyam, Surekha and other Engineering staff were present in the re-examination meeting.
