Video shows officer trapped inside cruiser as vandals smash windshield

Wild video shows masked thugs recklessly attacking a police vehicle with an officer inside during a chaotic street takeover in Maryland.

Video and eyewitnesses show drivers swarming the intersection of the East West Expressway and Connecticut Avenue shortly after midnight on Feb. 22 in Gaithersburg, Maryland, blocking traffic in all directions and doing “donuts” at high speed as onlookers stood in the road.

Montgomery County police said the takeover activity began around 12:39 a.m. when a large caravan of vehicles was spotted heading toward the Silver Spring central business district. Officers moved to monitor the group and closed several intersections to limit access and protect the public.

Despite all efforts, dozens of vehicles descended on the busy intersection and blocked the road.

Dashcam video from the scene showed people who deliberately blocked police vehicles by stopping on the roadway and drivers continuing to do “donuts” on the road.

During the confrontation, two marked Montgomery County police cruisers were destroyed. Photos from the police show that the windows of patrol vehicles were broken.

In one case, a police officer was sitting inside his vehicle when the rear window shattered and the windshield shattered. No officers were injured.

Maryland State Police intervened to disperse the crowd and restore traffic flow.

Before the caravan reached Montgomery County, three handguns were seized by Prince George’s County Police and Maryland State Police during traffic stops in connection with the meeting.
