Lightning strike at St. Augustine Pier injures three, one in critical condition

Popular St. Augustine Pier wounded three people, one of which was in critical state, a lightning strike on Friday afternoon.

The incident was reported immediately after 15:00 and immediately responded from the emergency crew.

According to the authorities, when the lightning was shot, the victims had a pier. One person was subjected to critical injuries, another minor injuries, and the third refused to be transferred to the hospital.

A fisherman Rafael Cosme, who was on the pier at the time, then took a video and shared only action news with Jax.

Surveillance images from nearby surfing station also recorded the lightning strike.

In the video, a flash that hit the pier by hitting three people can be seen. A few spectators are running towards the stage. Cosme can also be seen on the edge of the scaffold.

“And I looked around to see if one of this lightning strike was injured,” Cosme said.

Another clip shows that Cosme is walking towards a man lying on the ground. It is seen that a few people run to help.

“Everything was very fast, C Cosme remembered.

Currently, it remains unclear what the relationship between the three injured people is.

Augustine Beach Mayor Dylan Rumrell reflected a previous lightning incident in the region and stressed the danger of these events.

“In 2023, there was a woman who was shot by Yıldırım in Roberts Road, which was released from St. John’s County, from State Road 13. This is in the last few years in St. John’s County.

As of now, the identity of the victims has not been released and they are not known.
