Up, up and a-whey! Soaring whey costs force India’s protein supplement makers to turn to plants

Last year, raw whey costs increased by almost 70%. ₹3,000 per kg, increasing pressure across the value chain, according to suppliers interviewed Mint. As a result, retail whey protein (largely in powder format) in India today is generally available at around ₹2,000 per kg for budget-friendly products ₹4,000-5,000 or more for premium offers at a 2kg pack cost ₹4,000 to ₹7,000.
