Former President Joe Biden on Friday accused President Donald Trump of trying to “erase the truth” and squander the United States’ role as a world leader.
“IIt’s not just my record that Trump is trying to erase,” Biden told South Carolina Democrats, citing the president’s efforts to get rid of the Affordable Care Act.
“He is trying to erase fairness, equality, history, and truth,” he continued, citing incidents in which slavery-related information has been removed or altered from museums and national parks since Trump took office.
“Biden argued that great nations do not bury the truth. “They’re facing it. This is a great nation.”

Last summer, Trump wrote: “The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL; everything discussed here is about how terrible our Country is, how bad Slavery is, and how much the oppressed have failed – nothing about Success, nothing about Brilliance, nothing about the Future.”
He also ordered a review of the Smithsonian to ensure its exhibits were appropriate to celebrate “American exceptionalism.”
Biden, the guest of honor at Friday’s “thank you” event by state Democrats who helped revitalize his presidential campaign six years ago, claimed the United States is currently living in “dark days.”

“Our future is literally at stake,” he said. “We should have no regrets about fighting for our country.”
Biden also issued a warning about the upcoming midterm elections, claiming that Trump was “trying to steal the election because he knew he couldn’t win your vote, so he tried to steal the election.” He will do his best to prevent you from wanting to vote. …Mark my words. I hope I’m wrong.”
The more voters see of Trump, he said, “the less they like him.”

““So we have reason to be hopeful, because time and time again in moments of great crisis throughout history, Americans have called upon the best angels of our nature and brought our country back from the brink.”
Biden also predicted that Democrats would take back both the Senate and the House of Representatives in November.
Biden boasted that he knew more heads of state than any other president in history, adding: ““Americans knew they had a president who believed in, respected and followed the Constitution.”
Citing a Pew Research Survey, he showed: ““A dramatic decline in our reputation around the world,” he claimed, “We are no longer the same.”
He added that if the United States is not leading the world, Russia or China may be the ones doing so.

Biden also criticized Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday for what he left out.
““The guy talks for almost two hours and he never mentions the anniversary of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” Biden warned. “Not once.”
He also noted that the president did not mention Renee Good or Alex Pretti, the Americans killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis earlier this year, or “offer not a single word of consolation to their families.”
