Ten workers feared dead in a blast in firecracker unit in Kakinada district

It was reported that at least 10 workers were burned alive and 15 workers were trapped in the unit following the explosion that took place in the fireworks production facility at around 14.45 on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Vetlapalem village of Samarlakota Mandal in Kakinada district.
Citizens who witnessed the explosion claimed that the bodies of several workers were found scattered far from the unit due to the impact of the explosion. Vetlapalem is known for its fireworks manufacturing units in Kakinada district.
Kakinada District Manager G. Bindu Madhav’s office claimed; “At least 10 workers were burned alive in the explosion that occurred at the Surya Fire Station in Vetlapalem village. The explosion occurred in one of the four adjacent workshops.”
The units belong to Adabala Veerababu of Vetlapalem village. Fire tenders have been launched from Kakinada city and nearby industrial units in Peddapuram industrial complex. Police claimed that the manufacturing unit has a license to operate until 2027. EOM
