Mason Cox was selected for the Dockers against Geelong in round one, while acting captain Josh Treacy kicked five goals in a 12.12 (84) to 9.14 (68) win at Mandurah, south of Perth, on Saturday.

The Crows will also be happy to see so many key players missed through injury ahead of their blockbuster first-round game against Collingwood at the MCG.

They stuck with the Dockers until the final quarter, when Fremantle made the most of the strong south wind that was the highlight of the match.

Reid only had more than 20 possessions twice in his outstanding debut season last year and played mostly at half-forward, but he scored 30 points on Saturday.

His teammate Hayden Young, who had a difficult time last season due to injury, also shined in midfield.

Joining the Dockers as a mature rookie after being delisted by Collingwood, Cox has shown signs of being more than just a back-up ruckman for Luke Jackson and Sean Darcy.

With Darcy not starring and Jackson having a variety of roles, Cox seized the opportunity. His superb strike set up Shai Bolton for the goal that put the Dockers ahead late on.

The Dockers were frightened when Jye Amiss limped off with a sore foot after a scoring contest in the first quarter.
