Body of missing fisherman pulled from water at Beecroft Peninsula

The body of a fisherman who fell into the water at a popular fishing spot on the NSW South Coast has been recovered from the water.
Emergency services were called to Beecroft Parade on the Beecroft Peninsula shortly before midday on Sunday following reports a fisherman had slipped into the water and failed to resurface.
The man’s disappearance sparked a massive search by police, NSW Ambulance and Surf Life Saving.
About an hour later, the body of a person was taken out of the water.
“Although the body has not yet been officially identified, it is believed to be a missing fisherman in his 50s,” the police statement said.
Acting Inspector Adam Rigney said police believed the fisherman was not wearing a lifejacket at the time of the incident.

“While the investigation into the fisherman’s death was ongoing, police claimed that the man was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident, which was unfortunate.
“The message is clear. Please plan your trip by checking your equipment and weather conditions carefully.
“Be prepared for emergencies by wearing an approved life jacket.
“Wearing a life jacket will not only save your life, but it will also protect your family from possibly losing a loved one.”
The police launched an investigation into the incident and started a crime scene investigation.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
