Anti-American protests turn deadly at U.S. Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan

At least nine people were killed and more than two dozen were injured after violent clashes outside the US Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan.
Hundreds of protesters attacked the diplomatic compound as anti-American demonstrations escalated sharply.
Unrest followed reports The killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli attack sparked anger among Shiite Muslims in Pakistan.
Witnesses told The Associated Press that most of the protesters were Shiite Muslims who expressed anger over Khamenei’s reported death and allegations of U.S. intervention. Protesters chanted anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans and attempted to breach the consulate’s perimeter.

As clashes intensified outside the compound, security forces deployed police and paramilitary units.

Pakistani authorities have tightened security around consulates and other U.S. diplomatic missions in Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar out of fear that unrest could spread. “We are monitoring reports of ongoing demonstrations at the US Consulates General in Karachi and Lahore, as well as calls for additional demonstrations at the US Embassy Islamabad and Consulate General in Peshawar,” the US Embassy in Islamabad said. He said it in X. “We advise U.S. citizens in Pakistan to monitor local news and follow good personal safety practices, including being aware of your surroundings, avoiding large crowds, and ensuring your STEP registration is current.”
The violence comes amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States over Tehran’s nuclear program, regional influence and support for proxy groups.

The unrest comes as US and Israeli forces continue coordinated attacks targeting Iran’s military infrastructure, air defenses and command centres. The Pentagon called the mission Operation Epic Fury, while the Israel Defense Forces called it Operation Lion’s Roar. US officials said the attacks were aimed at weakening Tehran’s military capabilities and neutralizing what they described as imminent threats to the US and its allies.
