Dallas officials say they are working to change freeway signs to reflect Botham Jean Boulevard

Dallas city officials are trying to change highway signs to reflect a move the city council made in 2021.
That year, the Dallas City Council voted unanimously. Rename part of Lamar Street To honor Botham Jean shot dead in his own home by an off-duty Dallas police officer in September 2018.
Street signs were changed to reflect the renaming of a portion of Lamar Street to Botham Jean Boulevard. But freeway signs on I-30 and I-45 still bear the Lamar Street name, according to the city.

The cost of replacing highway signs is estimated at $300,000, according to the city.
“That’s something, Councillor. [Adam] Bazaldua has consistently strived over the years, Bazaldua spokeswoman Dezareigh Walls said in an emailed statement.
City officials said they are still working to identify funding to make the change. They did not provide a timeline for when this might happen.
