Former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai appealed to global leaders to immediately intervene and stop the ongoing conflict in West Asia before it causes further disasters.

Speaking to the media in Bengaluru on Monday (March 2, 2026), he expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict and said while Israel has launched attacks on Iran, Iran is retaliating, creating a “highly alarming situation.”

“Behind the current developments is not only Israel but also the USA. West Asia is a very important region for the economic and cultural stability of the world and has witnessed many wars historically. Previously, wars were fought for Jerusalem in the name of religion. Now the conflicts arise from oil and religious issues. The USA is trying to have control over oil resources and is not in a position to listen to anyone’s advice.”

Responding to a question on the possibility of a third world war, the former CM said China and Russia are yet to enter the battlefield and appear to be observing the situation strategically. “If they join the war, this could reach much greater dimensions. World leaders need to take action to stop the war before such a major disaster occurs,” he said.
