HC Extends Interim Relief Given To Actor Ranveer Singh Till March 9

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday extended the interim relief granted to Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh till March 9 in a case related to his alleged impersonation of a character in the movie ‘Kantara Part-1’ and mocking a deity. The actor had approached the Supreme Court to quash the FIR lodged against him for impersonating Rishab Shetty’s role as the ‘Chavunda’ god in the film.
Singh had called the god a “ghost” while imitating him. The actor was asked to appear in court in person on Monday.
Speaking on behalf of the actor, his lawyer Sajjan Poovayya said Singh was stranded in London and could not reach Bengaluru due to the conflict in West Asia.
The complainant, a lawyer, claimed that calling the god a ghost hurt his religious feelings. On the instructions of the local court, the police filed a case against the actor.
On February 24, the Supreme Court granted interim relief to the actor, directing the police not to take any coercive steps against him. PTI
