Albanese put Australia’s support behind Trump’s Iran attack. Why?

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was one of the first world leaders to openly support US-Israeli military action against Iran. a statement: “We support the United States taking action to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to prevent Iran from continuing to threaten international peace and security.”
By comparison, a joint statement The statement, drafted by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, while far from critical (he condemned Iran’s retaliatory action, not the initial attacks, and called on the country to “seek a negotiated solution”), was careful to note that “we do not participate in these attacks” and stressed their “commitment to regional stability” and the need to protect civilians.
