Organs of 19-year-old Kochi accident victim donated to save four lives

4 lives were saved by taking organs from 19-year-old Jasliya Johnson, who was brain dead. After his brain death was confirmed on Tuesday, February 3, his relatives expressed their desire to donate his organs, according to a communication. Organ donation procedures were coordinated through the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (K-SOTTO).

Jasliya’s liver was donated to a patient being treated at Rajagiri Hospital, her kidneys were donated to Kottayam Medical College, and her corneas were donated to Kerala Angamaly Eye Bank Association.

A native of Edavanakkad, Vypeen, Ernakulam, Ms. Johnson was a second-year B.Com student at Morning Star College, Angamaly. Jasliya, who was working part-time besides her studies, met with the accident at TELK Junction in Angamaly on February 28 while returning from work. He was taken to a private hospital in Angamaly and later transferred to Rajagiri Hospital for specialized treatment.

All India Lawyers Association Women’s Sub-Committee organized an organ donation awareness program here the other day to accelerate organ donation efforts. At the event, nearly 20 lawyers expressed that they wanted to donate their organs.

“We have collected their names and details and their organ donation commitments will be recorded in the coming days. The aim was to encourage more people to donate their organs,” said TP Ramesh, Ernakulam district president of the association.
