Demi Lovato calls past teen relationship with older boyfriend ‘not OK’

Demi Lovato revisits her early Hollywood years.

The former Disney star took aim at the 12-year age gap she had with her ex-boyfriend during her youth, saying in hindsight: “That’s not right.”

“I’m sitting here today in that spirit, grateful for everything I’ve been through… it was really challenging. There wasn’t a lot of time to play. But when I did play, I played pretty hard,” Lovato said. Keke Palmer’s podcast.

“I found myself dating; I’m 15, why is my boyfriend 20?” Palmer shared.

“Nobody our age would understand,” Lovato added. “But then you look back. When I turned 30, I thought, ‘This isn’t right.'”

Palmer also reflected: “Girl, the moment you realize that a lot of the people around you who are doing things are getting older, it can almost be a mental break, because you realize you’re being taken advantage of. ‘Oh, I’m being taken advantage of.’ This was very difficult for me because when I was 15 I thought ‘my boyfriend is older because I’m doing an older job’. ‘I do a lot of things and that’s just the way it is.’ It seemed normal in my mind.”

Lovato met Valderrama when she was 17 and he was 29. The couple was together from 2010 to 2016.

“When I first met Wilmer, he was 29 years old,” he said in his documentary “Simply Complicated”, shot in 2017. “I met him on January 11, 2010, and he was at the PSA screenings at his home for the 2010 census forms,” ​​he said.

He said the only reason he agreed to have the PSA was because he heard she was at his house and thought she was “really sweet.”
