Oregon discount retailer quietly closes Portland-area store

A Eugene-based discount retailer quietly closed one of its Portland-area stores this week.

Bi-Mart A regional chain with 79 locations in Oregon, Washington and western Idaho announced Wednesday it will close its 2601 Falk Road store in Vancouver, effective immediately.
“Unfortunately, due to consumer demand and the changing local market, we have not been able to remain profitable enough to keep these doors open,” Bi-Mart President Todd Watson said in a news release. “We occasionally have to make difficult but prudent decisions to manage the overall health of our business.”
According to the release, memberships for the Vancouver location are at 11912 NE Fourth Plain Blvd. It will be transferred to the nearby Orchards store at . Members can then request to transfer their membership to another Bi-Mart location.
Management is working with Falk Road Bi-Mart employees to apply for positions at other stores.

Despite Vancouver’s closure, Bi-Mart remains “healthy and strong” and plans to open new locations in Hood River and Seaside this year, according to the statement. The first will replace the Cascade Farm and Outdoor store, a subsidiary of Bi-Mart. Announced it will close all locations in January.
Bi-Mart was founded in 1955 in Yakima, Washington.
