2 Die, 3 Injured in Scaffolding Collapse

Hyderabad: Two workers were killed and three workers were seriously injured when bamboo scaffolding collapsed in a seven-storey building under construction at Al Hasnath Colony in Tolichowki in Mehdipatnam police limits on Thursday. According to revenue officials, the construction was illegal. The owner and builder of the building were charged with negligence.

The deceased have been identified as Adinarayana Rao and Tirupati, both natives of Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district. The injured were identified as R. Ramesh from Srikakulam, M. Ramesh from Odisha and Ahmed from Bandlaguda, Hyderabad.

According to police, while five people were setting up bamboo scaffolding between the sixth and seventh floors around 4 pm on Thursday, the wooden panels broke and five people fell from a height of 60 meters of the under-construction building.

Asifnagar ACP B. Kishan Kumar said the police received information around 4.30 pm and rushed to the spot. Adinarayana Rao and Tirupati sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot. It was stated that the health condition of 1 of the 3 injured people was critical.

Ghouse, a tea vendor heading towards the street, heard a loud scream from the building. “Two people collapsed at the scene of the accident covered in blood. Some people asked for water to drink and wanted them to be transported to the hospital,” he said.

Asifnagar ACP said that they found the building owner and the builder guilty of negligence.

Sachin Tiwari, security guard of the private school, said that he noticed that there were at least 15 workers in the building under construction and that the workers started working after taking a nap in the afternoon.

“A car and a car parked nearby were damaged, five people fell on the road from different places. Three people were unconscious while being taken to the hospital,” the security guard said.

Mehdipatnam police registered a case against the owner and builder for causing death due to negligence. A revenue official visited the place and detected illegal construction. They would prepare a report and submit it to the district collector on Friday.

Labor minister V. Vivek ordered the authorities to take measures to provide medical assistance to injured persons and asked for a report on safety measures and workers.
