Man allegedly armed with bike chain charged with attempting to strangle stranger

A man who allegedly armed himself with a bicycle chain and tried to strangle a stranger in inner Sydney has been charged with attempted murder.
Michael Charles Jarvis, 35, is due to appear in bail court on Friday after being charged in connection with an incident in Surry Hills on Wednesday afternoon.
It is alleged Mr Jarvis was armed with a bike chain when he tried to strangle the 26-year-old in Wentworth Street.
The man managed to free himself and was allegedly attacked by Mr Jarvis, who later left the scene, police said.
The 26-year-old was taken to hospital and NSW Police launched an investigation.
Mr Jarvis was arrested at Kings Cross Police Station on Thursday evening.
He was charged with attempted strangulation/smothering with intent to murder, assault causing actual bodily harm, and stalking/intimidation with intent to create fear of physical harm.
He will appear in the Bail Chamber Court on Friday.
