Apple’s latest product is a game-changer

Apple (AAPLShares have gained nearly 11% in the past year as of Thursday morning, March 5, according to Yahoo Finance. Meanwhile SPDR S&P 500 index (SPY) increased by almost 19% over the same period.
Falling behind the S&P 500 is not a good outcome for the company. But this is a measure of the company’s sentiment, not its value. The artificial boom has greatly inflated the price tags of some AI-heavy stocks, while Apple is also a artificial intelligence survivor.
Despite this, the stock gained more value last year than some of the big tech companies that are spending ridiculous amounts of money on artificial intelligence.
-
Microsoft (MSFT) increased by just over 4% in the same period.
-
Amazon (AMZN) increased by approximately 6.4%.
-
Meta (META) just over 4%.

Apple doesn’t need AI to disrupt the market, and the company’s competitors know it. The launch of the latest laptop series will prove this.
Apple was introduced MacBook Neo launches March 4 starting at $599.
Some people will think: “They announced a new laptop, what’s the big deal? What kind of game changer is this?”
To understand why this is an important moment, we need to examine the market segment this laptop targets and how the timing of its launch gives Apple an incredible advantage.
This is the first time Apple is offering a laptop in this “cheap laptop” price range. Accordingly IMARC Group’s researchLaptops priced between $500 and $1,000 dominate the market. Apple is just entering this segment and it’s bound to cause disruption.

It’s easy to see that many people who love Apple as a brand but can’t afford a laptop may buy one just for the brand.
Looking at the specs, we see that Apple has chosen the hardware carefully to avoid undermining MacBook Air sales while offering the Apple experience at the lowest price ever.
The key differentiating factor is that the Neo is limited to just 8GB of soldered (non-replaceable, non-upgradeable) unified system memory. It’s strange to see a new line of laptops launching in 2026 with only 8GB of RAM.
Many people will be annoyed by this trick, and I completely understand that. I’m writing this on a ThinkPad with 32GB of RAM. But do most potential buyers need more than 8 GB of RAM?
I think 8GB will be enough for most people; This isn’t a gaming machine or video editing workstation. The main use cases are web browsing, writing, and light photo editing. An exception might be if you have a habit of keeping several dozen tabs open in your browser.
However, there are many reasons why this laptop is far superior to what competitors offer.
Microsoft Windows 10 ended support on October 14, 2025.
Requiring Windows 11 Trusted Platform Module Using the (TPM) chip, Microsoft has made hundreds of millions of computers incompatible with it.

Many people running Windows 10 on machines that can be upgraded to Windows 11 do not want to upgrade. Microsoft has been under fire for some time for its AI-focused approach, and I covered one of these examples of user anger in my article: “The president of Windows said, ‘Stop this nonsense. Nobody wants this.'”
But you don’t have to believe me or the users who are angry at X.
Here’s what Dell Vice President and COO Jeffrey Clarke had to say about this: Q3 earnings call In November 2025: “We have not yet completed the Windows 11 migration. In fact, compared to the previous OS end of service, we are 10, 12 points behind the previous generation on Windows 11.”
“If memory serves, the installed base is roughly $1.5 billion – 1.5 billion units,” he continued. “We have about 500 million that haven’t upgraded that can run Windows 11. We also have another 500 million that are four years old that can’t run Windows 11.”
I covered Dell’s struggles to successfully market its laptops as AI-ready in my article “Bank of America resets Dell stock forecast after private meeting.”
So Apple’s timing is almost perfect because there are still hundreds of millions of devices that haven’t been ported or replaced, and many people are now ready to give macOS a chance after seeing where Windows is going.
I’m sure some readers are asking themselves: “Is the author a crazy Apple fan who is hyping this device?”
Like hell. I wouldn’t buy an Apple device; keep in mind, I’m writing this on a Lenovo machine.
I’m a big believer in the right to repair and the right to property. For me, an SSD drive soldered to the motherboard is reason enough not to buy the device. The fact that the RAM is not upgradeable makes the situation worse.
Most people are not bothered by these facts. When advising someone on which laptop to buy, I explain what their problems are, but I also try to put myself in the shoes of the person buying it and what is really important to them.
What people get with this laptop is a nice aluminum chassis that feels better than any cheap, plastic laptop in the same price range.
The device also has a much better display than its competitors, with a resolution of 2408 x 1506 pixels and 500 nits brightness. Laptops sold for $600 typically have displays with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and 300 nits of brightness.

The Magic Keyboard is there, albeit without backlit, and Touch ID is only available on the more expensive version with a 512GB SSD. However, the keyboard will offer a better experience than any other computer in this category because if you want a good keyboard on a computer, you need to buy a more expensive business machine, not a consumer device.
What you can’t get and what you shouldn’t want to get is noise. The laptop is powered by an iPhone chip. It has no fans, and Apple says the battery lasts up to 16 hours. The chip is powerful enough for most tasks you’d do on a machine with just 8GB of RAM, and is more powerful than the M1 at single-threaded tasks, according to Apple.
M1 blows away the competition Released in 2020and it’s still pretty strong today. The laptop’s port selection is poor, but people with multiple monitors probably aren’t after this machine.
If you don’t already know, you can’t turn off your laptop and put it in a carrying case without shutting it down. You’re running the risk of destroying your device, and you can thank Microsoft for that.
Accordingly DellMicrosoft introduced “modern standby” in 2012.
Modern standby has replaced S3 deep sleep. In fact, many modern CPUs no longer support S3 deep sleep.
The problem is, this means that modern standby laptops often aren’t actually in sleep mode and the fan has to keep running. If you put the laptop in the bag, you run the risk of damaging the fan by choking and overheating the device.
To delve deeper into the problem, I recommend you watch the Linus Tech Tips video titled “.Microsoft is forcing me to buy a MacBook – Windows Modern Standby.”
Frankly, the MacBook Neo does not have such a problem. Microsoft and PC CPU/Laptop manufacturers have turned something completely normal like putting a laptop in a carrying case into something to worry about.
I’ve been backing the release of this laptop since rumors about it started, as I see it as a much-needed punch (and potentially knockout) to Microsoft, Lenovo, Dell, and more. HP, AMDIntel, Qualcomm and others.
Now they need to go back to the drawing board.
