Four-bedroom home sells for $1.39 million, $100,000 over reserve
A four-bedroom house in Wheelers Hill sold at auction for $1.39 million on Saturday after five families pushed the price more than $100,000 above the reserve.
The clinker brick house at 4 Samantha Close is minutes from Jells Park and Caulfield Grammar. With underfloor heating, a glass-enclosed living room overlooking the courtyard, and a chair lift for accessibility, this building’s price range was $1.18 million to $1.28 million.
Biggin Scott representative and auctioneer Lindsay Xu said bidding started at less than $1 million.
He said three bidders gradually raised the price, albeit in $100,000 and $50,000 increments, before reaching the $1.25 million reserve.
After the property was put on the market, two more families joined the fray, Xu said.
Bids rose by $10,000 and $25,000, then came down to smaller increments of $2,000 and $3,000 before the hammer fell, he said.

“The buyers bought it to live in now,” he said. “They had already sold their own home and wanted to find another home in the area.”
Xu thought the long weekend and not having many auctions to compete with helped the house attract a large crowd and have many families ready to bid.
